There is no matching the Germans when it comes to automotive skills. And the big daddy of them all is Volkswagen, owner of several automotive maruqes including Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, etc. While the Mercs have AMG, BMW has M, Audi has RS, the local giant VW has the spectacular R-Line. With the R-Line featuring on the new Volkswagen Passat, the results are of volcanic proportions.
Unlike the Mercs’ AMG division, the R-Line does not offer an uptuned engine and blitzing performance. Rather, it is a more subtle upgrade with revised sportier looks and tuned suspension. Available across both sedan and estate vehicle, the R-Line package can be recognized with its new front bumper and larger air dams. More profoundly, the R-Line logo on the front grille graces the entire persona and there are new distinguished fog lamps.
Moving on to the rear, the Volkswagen Passat R-Line features new diffusers, coated with glossy black. Adding to the sporty appeal of the R-Line is the new and stylish roof spoiler. Some of the obvious bits include the 17-inch Mallory alloys, while the buyer also gets an option of 18-inch alloys. Appearing as sports model, the R-Line rides 15 mm lower than the standard counterpart with the new sporty suspension unit.
Speaking of the interiors, the R-Line features ‘Kyalami’ designed sports seats, with titanium silver inserts finished on the door panels, dashboard and centre console. The sporty profile is carried inside the car with the driver enjoying restyled, leather finished steering wheel and stainless steel pedals.
The R-Line in Germany pegs €30,225, while customers of the Volkswagen Comfortline and Highline trim can enjoy the R-Line exclusive aero kit for additional €990.
