The 2013 Chevrolet Traverse has been unveiled ahead of the New York Auto Show, which is due to start next week. This eight passenger crossover utility vehicle has got some refreshed exterior and interior in its latest avatar. In addition to the refreshed exterior and interior features, it also has been upgraded both in the technological and safety aspects. The 2013 Traverse will be coming equipped with GM’s all-new center airbag as an option, whose sole purpose is to protect the passengers of front sear during a collision, which could happen from any of the sides. The Buick Enclave and the GMC Acadia that also share the same platform with 2013 Traverse have the same kind of centre airbag in them. Now since this is a new kind of thing in safety features, the competitors like Ford Flex and Dodge Durango doesn’t have it yet.
The 2013 Traverse will be having a new centre assemblage, which will accommodate the optional Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, which has a touchscreen of 6.5 inch and a standard rear view camera display fitted to it. A new grille, bumper, bonnet, fog-lamps and head-lamps will adorn beside the new tail-lamp and lift-gate at the rear end. The powertrain won’t get a major upgrade as such. Instead, it will be kept to the minimal resulting in not much difference from the previous variants. The present V-6, direct injected 3.6-liter engine pumps out the very same 281 hp and 266 lb-ft of peak torque in the new 2013 Chevrolet Traverse. However, the automatic 6-speed transmission of the crossover does have software and hardware upgrades to give it more precise shifts and to carry the fuel efficiency of 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway in the all-wheel drive variant while it gives a mileage of 17 mpg in city and 24 mpg on the highway in its front-wheel drive variant.
Although the EPA has not yet released the exact figure of fuel efficiency for the new 2013 Chevrolet Traverse but the 2012 Traverse gives 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway with an all-wheel drive. This is the same as of AWD Flex and Durango while Traverse is only equipped with the V-6 engine. Whereas Durango has an upgraded V-8 engine which pumps out 360 hp of power. When we start the comparison to look for the possible competitors, we find that the Ford is coming up with 2013 Explorer Sport with a V-6 engine that is said to pump out 350 hp at least. Toyota is coming up with a 4-cylinder engine in its new Highlander which will be a front-wheel drive vehicle. For now, the exact releasing date and price of 2013 Chevrolet Traverse hasn’t been declared as such yet, but as per assumption it should be somewhere bit above than the price of 2012 Traverse which starts at $ 29,510.
