General Motors global sales rises 4.5%

General Motors has announced their sales results, which show a narrow lead over its German rival Volkswagen. The U.S. car maker has pointed out that its sales in the fourth quarter rose by 5.2%, while its global sales throughout the year rose 4.5%, which is equivalent to 9.71 million vehicles. Volkswagen, the automaker who aims to become the world’s best seller by 2018 had said that their sales rose by almost 5% but they had failed to provide figures. Toyota Motors, Volkswagen and General Motors are in a tight competition at the moment for their sales around the world. According to the news reports from Detroit, The Federal government is to stay with the General motors’ until the end of summer. Based on the theory of papers, the department of Treasury has its power to separate themselves from the stocks of General motor as the lock up period is to end by the 22nd of May 2011 after its first public offering in November 2011. The reports from the Detroit News stated that the treasury department is to uphold the stocks of the company until the company releases its earnings for the second quarter of 2011. To add more workers to their fold, the United Auto Workers are trying to talk things out with General Motors to reopen two new factories. Reports say that the United Auto Workers will try and cite the reason of addition of new product assembly lines for reopening the Saturn plant which is located at Spring Hill along with the company’s closed factory located at Janesville. These negotiations are the first that are taking place by the United Auto Workers and the Big Three since General Motors and Chrysler filed for bankruptcy in 2009. General Motor has taken legal and official action against Allied Systems Ltd. over a payment disagreement which took a rather ugly turn. Sometime as claimed by General Motors around $47million worth of the company’s models were kept stored in the dealer’s lot without being made available for sale purposed to the customers. The concerned cars are currently kept at Limbo, also known as Michigan, Dearborn, and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
