Following an impressive 2013 season, which saw the team take a company high three victories and narrowly missing out on GT championship, California-based GMG (Global Motorsports Group) will head to this weekend’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg four cars strong. The Hennessey Venom GT set a new world speed record for two-seater sportscars by reaching a top speed of 435.31 km/h (270.49 mph). The run was performed at Kennedy Space Center on the 3.2-mile Space Shuttle landing runway. Brian Smith, a former Michelin tire test engineer, Director of Miller Motorsport and experienced race driver drove the Venom GT to its record speed. A representative from Racelogic, world-renowned manufacturer of GPS data acquisition systems was on hand to independently verify and document the Hennessey Venom GT’s speed record.
