Before the Paris Motors Show, Porsche has come out with the details of 911 Carrera and 4S models. The special feature of these models is the all-wheeldrive option which helps in increasing the traction, gripping on the road and superb performance on all types of terrains and in all types of weather condition.
The rear wheel arches of these models are wider than that of the two-wheel drive 911 Carrera models. The back wheel arches extend outwards by 22 mm and the tyres supported by them are also 10 mm wider. The model is given a new-look with a red light band connecting the two taillights. There are 4 versions of this all-wheel drive models: the 91 Carrera 4, 911 Carrera 4S, a Coupe and a Cabriolet. All the models have the same features such as lightweight body, choices for engine, options for gearbox, suspension etc.
The body of the car is made of aluminum and steel and it is lighter in weight. It is about 65 kg lighter than its previous mode. Though the performance is very high, the new 911 Carrera 4S models ensure that there is about 16% less consumption of fuel. There is a seven-speed manual gearbox in all these models. The optional is the seven-speed Porsche Doppel kuppllung(PDK) twin-clutch automatic transmission.
All these models have a 3.4 litre flat six engine with 350 bhp and the engine is placed at the back. Porsche has claimed that the engine has the capability to achieve 0-100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds and in Cabriolet in 4.7 seconds. Depending on the specification, the top speed of about 284 kmph could be achieved (in Cabriolet about 281 kmph).
The 911 Carrera 4S has the 3.8 litre flat six-engine that is able to produce 400 bhp. It could have the acceleration from 0-62 mph in just 4.1 sec (in Cabriolet 4.3 sec). The top speed that can be attained is 299 kmph(in Cabriolet 296 kmph). There is a new menu available in these models which inform the driver about the distribution of the engine torque between the front and the back axels by PTM all wheel drive. Other new features are sliding glass sunroof, Porsche Active safe and extended Sport Chrono pack.
Porsche is also introducing the Adaptive Cruise Control option along with the launch of the 911 Carrera 4 models. This ACC will control the vehicle speed and distance to the traffic ahead and the feature will be there in all 911 model range. The ACC system will include safety feature Porsche Active Sage when ordered with PDK. This will be helpful in preventing front-end collisions.
The sliding glass sunroof is an optional feature for all the models of 911 Coupe. The system will be responding better with a manual gearbox along with the optional Sport Chrono pack. There is a double-declutching during downshifts in the Sport Plus mode.
