Honda provides the most refined petrol engines in its models. However, after the popularity of diesel burner in the world market, Honda too got into the race for a diesel motor. With the 2.2 litre CRDe already showcased, it was time for a lower capacity, lower emission, more economic diesel motor. Honda took wraps off the new generation diesel motor that will power its next generation mid-size cars. Dubbed ‘Earth Dreams Technology’, the 1.6-litre common-rail diesel engine has a maximum output of 120PS at 4000rpm and a max torque of 320Nm at 2000rpm. At just 170 kg, the engine is lightest in its class and gives amazing fuel economy.
This 1.6 litre diesel motor or a turbo diesel for Europe will power the Civic. Mated to this 1.6 litre CRDe is a six speed manual transmission, while there is no news of the automatic driveline. It is expected to join the family by the end of this year. We already bought the news of Honda to bring Jazz and Brio diesel variants in 2013. And looking at the rising fuel prices, Indian roads are likely to see this diesel power the future Honda cars.
