The finalists for the Green Car of the Year have been announced. The final list includes the Mazda CX-5 SkyACTIV, Ford Fusion, Ford C-MAX, Toyota Prius C and Dodge Dart Aero. The name of the winner will be revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show next month. Honda Civic natural gas bagged this award last year.
The award is known to honor the environmental leadership in the automotive field. The Green Car of the Year Award is presented by the Green Car Journal and this year marks the 8th edition of the award.
Many of the people will be surprise to see Mazda CX-5 SkyACTIV and Dodge Dart Aero as both are normal combustion cars but the criteria for their selection was not the greener or different engine but their overall fuel economy. On the other hand both the Ford vehicle in the list are available in both hybrid and combustion engine variants.
The winner of the award will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of Michael Brune (Sierra club executive director), Matt Petersen (President Global green USA), Jean Michael Costeau (President of Ocean Future Society), Jay Leno (Tonight show host) and a car lover and staff from Green Car journal.
The Green Car Journal will be having a press conference on 29th of November at Los Angeles Auto Show to reveal the names of the winners.
