The 1.0-litre ECOboost engine is one of the biggest revolutions of the auto industry. As the world moves towards small capacity, more efficient engines, the ECOboost is a certain dominator. However, it was uncertain if the new kid on the block would drive volumes when it comes to sales. That, until now. The outstanding sales figure suggest that the super efficient petrol motor is a big yes by European customers.
It turns out that both – 100 bhp and 125 bhp – petrol units have turned out a to be a big hit in Europe, powering the Focus hatch. As per sales figure, April saw Ford selling a total of 4,700 units of ECOBoost powered Focus’ in Europe, a staggering 23.3 per cent of total Ford Focus’ sold in the market.

With the success of the ECOboost in European market, Ford may consider exporting the pocket nuke to US markets, starting with the Fiesta. Currently, a 1.6-litre petrol unit giving 100 hp powers the Ford Fiesta. Apart from the Focus, European customers will also get the option of the ECOboost in the Ford B-MAX and Ford C-MAX by the year-end.
