Fiat had revealed a cool teaser video for the Fiat 500 crossover earlier this year and now the company has confirmed that the 500X crossover will go to the production line from early 2014 at the Fiat’s Melfi Plant which is reportedly the same plant that will be producing the new Baby Jeep SUV.
The already announced 500X SUV will be available with the choice of three different powertrains – a 1.4 litre, a 1.3 litre twin turbo and two cylinder turbocharged TwinAir engine. The new SUV will be based on the company’s new Small wide platform which currently also holds the 500L MPV. As far as Baby Jeep is concerned, it will be available only with all-wheel drive configuration and will be launched globally.
Fiat will also be making a replacement for Punto in 2015 at the same Melfi plant and another 500L based model that will be arriving in 2016. The new plant will be taking an investment of about 810 million pound and will allow the company to manufacture about 1600 vehicles across three shifts.
