With the days to go for the launch of the 2nd generation of BMW 1-Series reducing steadily, pictures of its camouflaged prototypes are becoming very common. These pictures provide you with a very close view of this about to be launched vehicle which actually is a 5 door hatchback variant. This car seems almost the production version because it has a reduced quantity of swirly sheeting and has been provided with tail lights and headlamps.
The BMW Company has kept the design of this car same as the previous version, though extensive amendments have been made to the looks and styling of this vehicle. This hatchback sports the very basic design of the 1-Series and has been provided with evolutionary styling.
A number of technical and performance related changes have been made to this car, few such changes include :
- A hybrid engine has been introduced to the model in addition to the company’s latest breed of turbocharged gasoline engines.
- Although details about the engine are limited, expectations are that the 1-Series will have TwinPower Turbo technology in both 3 and 4 cylindered engines.
- This technology combines direct gasoline injection, twin-scroll turbocharging and a entirely changeable Valvetronic valve management system.
- The first practical engine that is designed for this car is a 2.0liter four cylinder engine which provides a power of 500HP and a 350 Nm peak torque.
Speculations are that the BMW Company will launch both three door and 5 door versions of this car at Motor Show at Frankfurt in September. This will be followed by the launch of the convertible and coupe variants during the end of 2012 or beginning of 2013.
