With the premiere of RS 7 Sportback and SQ 5 Convertible at NAIAS, Audi announced that it wants to achieve No.1 position in the luxury car market of US. The German carmaker needs to double the sales figure to overcome its rivals like BMW and Mercedes-Benz for the highly pitched battle.
It is also learnt that Audi took the limelight at 1st position in China, Europe and Germany. Carmaker’s homeland stood for the first time in the list of top sales market.
Its US sales also rose by 18.5% i.e. to 139,310 units in the last year and were recorded as the highest sales number of that particular market in the long vying history.
News from North America flashed that ATS compact sedan from the house of Cadillac won the North American Car of the Year Award despite of negative sales growth by 1.7% i.e. to 149,782 units. This US based carmaker is also betting heavily on ATS and all new XTS sedan for 2013. German automaker might face some glitches because of the GM owned car brand but its President, Scott Keogh looks stubborn for the future plans. He said that they will sell 200,000 cars in US which will be a part of the global sales target of 1.5 million cars till 2015.
Prices of RS 7 Sportback and SQ 5 Convertible were not revealed but technical specifications came to our way. RS 7 is powered by a 4.0 liter V8 twin turbo engine which bursts out 560 bhp with a top speed of 189 mph. It swoops from 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds with a fuel efficiency of 24 mpg despite of standard Quattro AWD. The five door coupe also provides driving assistance with lane assist and park assist features.
The luxury sport crossover SQ 5 which will roll down the dealerships in the third quarter hides a 3.0 liter V6 supercharged powertrain under its hoods. It cranks out a 354 bhp and 347 lb-ft of torque with the sprint time of less than 5.3 seconds for 0-60 mph. It touches a top whack of 155 mph with 8 speed automatic gear guise and a standard all wheel drive Quattro.
