Volkswagen India showcased its bug at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi, but said nothing about the launch of the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle. And soon to join the bug family, according to the pictures, is the Beetle Convertible. The test mule of Beetle convertible was spied during its winter test.
When the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle was launched, it was indeed appreciated for the longer, flatter roofline. And this styling is carried over for the droptop version of the bug. However, it carries the same happy smiling face of the last generation car.
We don’t expect any change in the powerplant from the transformation of hardtop to droptop. Available powerplant for the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle is a 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine as a standard kit. There is no news of the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder to power the new convertible, however the 2.0-litre TDI unit may make its way under the hood of the convertible.
When launched, the Beetle convertible will add another open-top model to the company’s line-up, alongside Golf Cabriolet and Eos. Stay tuned for the official unveiling at the New York Auto Show this April.
